The B&RBKA exists to serve beekeepers in the South of Powys area. We hold events through the year and training courses particularly for beginners but also for improvers.

We have three association apiaries. The Wern, our teaching apairy on the outskirts of Brecon. Cefn Dyrys, our apiary above the RWAS showground. Ty Mawr (new site) our winter apiary at Llangasty.

MISSION STATEMENT:- To impart Inspiration, Enjoyment, and thereby Learning  about Bee Craft.

Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced beekeeper or just a member of the public interested in bees, membership of the B&RBKA will bring you many benefits.


 Automatic membership of the Welsh Bee Keepers Association, which represents us at a national level and produces and circulates the “Welsh Beekeeper” magazine four times a year. It has a website to disseminate information, an annual convention is organized at the RWAS showground, Builth Wells on a Saturday in late March, and it provides Public Liability indemnity of £5 million plus Products Liability indemnity of £5 million for all its members.

Access to Bee Disease Insurance, for compensation in the event of your colonies being destroyed under the statutory control regulations relating to American and/or European Foul Broods. BDI is a charity, and surplus funds are donated to bee research.

b) Full and Associate-

 Reduced subscription rate to “ Bee Craft “ and/or “The Beekeepers Quarterly” magazines.

Reduced admission charge to BBKA convention in April.

Varied programme of demonstrations, lectures, social events, fundraising and visits throughout the year.

Regular “Hands On” practical beekeeping in the active season at our own apiaries.

Twice yearly Beginners Courses over six sessions. Coaching in more advanced techniques given, on request, by some of the more experienced members. Mentoring and “buddying” schemes encouraged between members.

Monthly newsletters to keep you up to date with what is happening locally and nationally. Yearly programme sheet of B&R BKA events. Our own website.

Library of beekeeping books to borrow.

Hire for a modest fee of the Association extractors and uncapping trays.

But above all a chance to meet other beekeepers socially, both experienced and beginners, and to discuss your successes, your problems and a variety of topics associated with beekeeping.
